Why do I make photos?

Simple : because I like it, and I like it mainly for these three reasons.

As time flows, every moment is unrepeatable.

Thanks to photography, we can witness and record a moment, a situation, a particular condition of light, and convey through an image the emotions we feel and wish to communicate. We can freeze that specific instant forever and that's great.

The satisfaction that comes from the process of “making” a photograph and not just "shooting" (as intended by the great master Ansel Adams) is something unique. When I stand before a scene, I pre-visualize in my mind the photograph I want to achieve, and only then do I raise the camera to my eye. Afterwards, I return home and develop the image in a way that reinforces—without altering—what I had pre-visualized. Finally comes the print.

I know it’s hard to explain, but the satisfaction of seeing the exact image I had imagined emerging from the printer is truly priceless. In that moment, you forget the fatigue, the lost sleep, and all the times you went out and came back without a single shot (because it happens…).

A third, but no less important reason, is simply that I enjoy holding the camera in my hands. I know it may sound not entirely healthy from a mental point of view :), but it’s far more common among photographers than one might think. At this point, it has become a “possession,” understood as passion + obsession.
