My vision - my passion
To me, photography is exactly what the word says: from the greek "drawing with light". Light should be the heart of every picture, its main ingredient, like flour is for a baker.
My approach is slow and contemplative; I try to bring a sense of calm and quiet into a world that pushes us to rush. I look for light, shapes, textures, and the contrasts light creates. The subject itself isn’t what matters most to me—what matters are the feelings and the atmosphere the light produces. I work in black and white because that’s my language and that's how I see.
I always shoot with printing in mind: a photo isn’t truly a photo until it’s printed. A good print is the physical outcome of a mental process that starts with pre-visualizing the scene before I press the shutter. As Brassai put it : "a negative means nothing for a photographer like me; it’s the author’s print that counts".I print by myself and I like to control all the process, from idea to final print.
I learn and grow by studying the photo books of the greats. My biggest inspirations are Fan Ho, Michael Kenna, Ansel Adams, Sebastião Salgado, Kenro Izu, and Brassai.
A special thanks to Damiano Durante and Roberto Dacci: their YouTube channel, Riflessioni Fotografiche, made me look at photography in a different way. Damiano is a wonderful teacher and a man of deep culture and sensitivity.
